Home Page. The flash navigation contains always-in-motion, revolving link icons with no labels until after the user clicks. Problem: Each time the user wants to change search categories, it forces the user to guess which icon matches the search feature he desires. There is no indication on the home page that search features are grouped. It actually takes 3 or 4 clicks (depending upon whether the user accidentally finds the category listing page or not) to get to the results.
The results are displayed for that page view. Each time the user wants to search another feature for the same URL or even wishes to repeat a search after displaying another page, the search must be conducted over and over. There is no way to save search results, compare searches or print a report of all results in any manner. The user is required return to the home page, guess which icon matches their desired search type and repeat the process over and over without anyway to compile or document results.
My proposed update would use a tabbed category interface with checkboxes to select several search types for one URL or keyword(s).
The proposed results would display all search results for each category with the means to sort, display, and compare various results. This interface would enable reports to be displayed and printed. In addition, the user could also save session search results, eliminating having to repeat searches over and over.
